Resilient IT is seeking a Business Development Representative / Appointment Setter to help identify, engage, and qualify prospective clients, with a primary focus on federal government contractors, defense contractors, and organizations within the Defense Industrial Base.
This is a remote, W-2 business development position focused primarily on outbound prospecting, lead qualification, follow-up, and scheduling qualified appointments for our technical, cybersecurity, compliance, and sales leadership teams.
Our ideal candidate already has experience speaking with government contractors or working in the federal contracting ecosystem. Experience with a GovCon consulting firm, GSA consulting company, federal business development organization, MSP, MSSP, cybersecurity company, or similar organization is strongly preferred.
You do not need to be a cybersecurity engineer, CMMC assessor, or NIST 800-171 expert. We will provide training on our services, target markets, CMMC, NIST 800-171, DFARS, cybersecurity, managed IT, and the specific business challenges our clients face.
What is much harder to teach is the ability to comfortably initiate conversations with business owners and decision-makers, understand their needs, overcome objections, establish credibility, and turn the right conversations into qualified appointments.
We value targeted, informed outreach and qualified opportunities over indiscriminate call volume.
This is a remote, work-from-home W-2 position. We are open to candidates seeking either part-time or full-time employment depending on experience, availability, and performance.
What You’ll Do
- Contact prospective clients by phone, email, and other approved outreach methods to introduce Resilient IT and generate qualified business opportunities.
- Prospect primarily into federal government contractors, defense contractors, Defense Industrial Base companies, and other organizations with cybersecurity, compliance, or managed IT needs.
- Research businesses, identify appropriate prospects, and build targeted outreach lists using company-provided tools and data sources.
- Ask effective discovery questions to understand a prospect’s business, technology, cybersecurity, or compliance needs and determine whether there is a potential fit.
- Schedule qualified meetings and sales appointments with prospective clients for the appropriate Resilient IT technical, compliance, or business representative.
- Learn how to confidently and professionally respond to common questions and objections related to managed IT, cybersecurity, CMMC, NIST 800-171, DFARS, and related services.
- Maintain consistent and professional follow-up with prospects throughout the business development process.
- Accurately document calls, emails, notes, prospect information, activities, objections, appointments, and next steps in our CRM/ERP system.
- Work closely with the sales, technical, and compliance teams to improve targeting, messaging, qualification criteria, and appointment quality.
- Focus on generating qualified conversations and opportunities rather than simply maximizing call volume.
- Re-engage previous prospects, dormant opportunities, and other qualified contacts as assigned.
- Learn enough about Resilient IT’s services and the government contractor market to conduct credible initial conversations and recognize potential needs.
- Answer inbound calls to Resilient IT’s main business number, professionally screen the caller, determine the nature and urgency of the call, route the call to the appropriate team member when available, or accurately take and relay a message when necessary.
What We’re Looking For
-
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking with business owners, executives, IT leaders, compliance personnel, and other decision-makers by phone.
- Previous outbound B2B sales, appointment-setting, lead generation, business development, inside sales, or similar experience.
- Self-motivated, dependable, persistent, organized, and able to work independently in a remote environment.
- Able to communicate professionally, establish credibility, and represent Resilient IT appropriately.
-
Able to ask discovery questions, listen effectively, identify potential needs, and determine whether an opportunity is qualified.
- Comfortable with follow-up and working prospects through multiple outreach attempts rather than relying on one-time contact.
- Able to manage prospect information, follow-up activities, appointments, and daily priorities accurately.
- Comfortable learning and using CRM, ERP, phone, email, prospecting, and other online business systems.
- Must reside in the United States and be legally eligible for W-2 employment.
- Previous experience working with government contractors, federal contracting, GovCon consulting, GSA services, MSPs, cybersecurity firms, or similar organizations is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with terms such as SAM.gov, CAGE, UEI, prime contractor, subcontractor, DFARS, NIST 800-171, CMMC, or CUI is a strong plus, but technical expertise is not required.
-
Professional phone presence, good judgment, and the ability to quickly determine where an inbound caller should be routed without providing technical, legal, compliance, or sales advice outside the scope of the role.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
You will not simply be reading from a script or making indiscriminate high-volume calls.
This role is focused on targeted business development within a defined market, primarily federal government contractors, defense contractors, and organizations with cybersecurity, compliance, and managed IT requirements.
You will learn how government contractors evaluate technology, cybersecurity, and compliance services, how professional B2B sales works, and how to create qualified opportunities through effective conversations with business owners and decision-makers.
You’ll develop practical skills in:
- Business-to-business sales
- Government contractor prospecting
- Federal and Defense Industrial Base market research
- Professional executive-level communication
- Lead qualification
- Appointment setting
- Discovery questioning
- Objection handling
- CRM and pipeline management
- Managed IT and cybersecurity services
- CMMC, NIST 800-171, and DFARS fundamentals
You do not need to be a cybersecurity engineer, CMMC assessor, or compliance expert. We provide training on our services, our target market, and the technical and compliance issues our clients face.
In addition to outbound business development responsibilities, you will also serve as the first point of contact for inbound calls to Resilient IT. You will professionally screen and route calls, take accurate messages when necessary, and help ensure callers reach the appropriate person quickly. This requires good judgment, professionalism, and the ability to distinguish between sales inquiries, support requests, vendor calls, client needs, and other business matters.
What matters most is your ability to identify the right prospects, have professional conversations, determine whether there is a legitimate opportunity, and schedule qualified meetings.
You will also be able to see how the opportunities you generate move through the sales process and directly contribute to company growth.
What We Offer
- $12–$18 per hour, based on qualifications, relevant experience, and GovCon familiarity
- $25 commission for each qualified appointment scheduled
- Additional $100 bonus when an appointment you generate results in a new Resilient IT client
- W-2 employment
- Remote, work-from-home position
- Part-time and full-time opportunities
- Flexible scheduling for part-time team members
- Sales and business development training
- Training on managed IT, cybersecurity, CMMC, NIST 800-171, DFARS, and the government contractor market
- Company-provided CRM, email, communication, and outreach systems
- Real responsibility and autonomy
- Direct exposure to experienced IT, cybersecurity, compliance, and CMMC professionals
- Defined target market rather than generic mass-market prospecting
- Performance measured primarily by qualified opportunities and business generated
- Career advancement opportunities for strong performers
-
Experience serving as a professional first point of contact for inbound business calls, including caller screening, call routing, and message handling
